I live in Kentucky and was thinking about driving to the S Dakota, Montana, Wyoming area. What I think I'll do is drop my car off somewhere, and try to find a place in the wild where I can set up camp for a couple weeks and pretty much just try to survive. I need somewhere where I can fish, possibly hunt. The whole point of the trip is to lose myself in the wild...I want to spend as little money as possible aside from the gas to get there and back; not bringing electronics of any kind and as little food as I think I need. I am not looking for a campground or anything of that nature where I would have to pay to be outdoors and be stuck with other tourists; its a solo mission not relying on the 'system'. I understand this sounds a little hippie-ish but Im looking for an adventure. If yall have seen/read 'Into the Wild' then you will understand my inspiration for this; minus the dying part. Thanks for your suggestions and if you have any tips or advise for me I greatly appreciate it! |

Here's some links to get you started: Montana:http://fwp.mt.gov/default.html South Dakota:http://www.sdgfp.info/ Wyoming:http://gf.state.wy.us/ http://www.backpacker.com/ The dying part will depend on how well prepared you are. Temperatures drop like rocks after the sun goes down. Nocturnal animals forage at night. It's not just skunks and squirrels! |
