My school uses the new Mac OS X, and i really like them... i'm typing this on a Mac OS X right now. Even though there are about 15 other computers running off of the same system, the internet is very fast (even though A LOT of web pages are blocked), and it has a very high-resolution screen, and such a nice, sleek keyboard. I also like any other iMac, but not the Mac Books. I don't know how i feel about other desktops such as Dell or HP or Gateway. i have a Dell at home, and even though its ANCIENT it always says you are running low on disk space and i hate that. And what about lab tops? If i were to get a lab top, it would definitely not be a Mac Book. But any other kind, like Toshiba, or HP. No matter what, I need a computer with a LOT of space. I'm addicted to taking pictures, and i would like to be able to keep those pictures on my computer. It needs to be as easy as possible for me to take the pics off of my memory card, and put them onto my computer, then put them on myspace. =). i literally need space for 1,000,000 pictures. and music files(not as many music files, about 10,000) and then room for me to use the internet. Any opinions, if you've owned a iMac and you love it, hate it, want to throw it out the window, please tell me. Also what kind of lab top? And what about those mini notebooks? can you tell me about those too?'preciate it! Deanna. |

If not then just get a desktop with a 500+gig hard drive. The mini netbooks only have 160 gigs which would fill up if you need to take that many pictures 10,000 songs=30-40gigs 1million pictures=1.5terabytes (i doubt you will take 1million pictures) So yes a PC desktop is cheaper than a mac and you can put a nice size hard drive and some external hard drives |

You can buy an equivalent hardware PC for about 50% of the price. Without the Mac OS X, obviously. Storage isn't a big issue any more. You can buy huge internal or external hard drives and add them to any computer. Desktops obviously have more physical room for adding drives, but notebooks work decently with external USB drives up to 2 TB in size (as long as you're not trying to do anything FAST with those files). Netbooks are great for web surfing and light word processing. That's it. The small screen, lack of CD and single core processor are definite minuses for doing photo editing on them. From the sounds of it, a MacBook Pro would definitely meet your needs, or a PC laptop in the $700-800 range. Best Buy is a good place to try a bit of hands-on experimentation, especially for laptops. |

As far as Mac vs. PC, get what you want that fits into your budget. You can get a PC that meets your needs for much, much less than a Mac, so it's really about your budget. As far as getting you pictures from your camera to your computer, that's as easy with Windows 7 as it is with Mac. Don't expect your internet to be as fast as it is at your school when you're at home. That won't depend on what computer you have. You can actually get better screens than what the Mac has and you can absolutely get a PC with a much better graphics card (usually gaming computers). In other words, Macs aren't dominant in picture quality... In the end, it's up to your preference and your budget. _ |
