I have been looking at several breeds of dogs i might get. I know almost all of the dog breeds. I like smart, loving, and easily trained dogs. I hear that both of these dogs have many of the same features. Here is a little about myself:

I live in a house with
One 10 year old
One 14 year old
One 16 year old
One Ferret (will the dog herd her if they are intruduced as a pup?)
And Two Adults.

So as you can see they need to get along with children. We have 4 chickens and a medium sized yard. Since I live in the mountains of Japan there are A LOT of rice fields (like corn fields) around here to run and train in. So there is PLENTY of wilderness, trees, hiking, etc.

Can a border collie live outside? Do they have a coat that will withstand temp. outside? It does not get too hot or cold around here. but I am just curious.

Can a ACD (australian cattle dog) live outside? Do they have a coat that will withstand temp. outside? It does not get too hot or cold around here. but I am just curious.
